Celebrate The Man In Your Life This Father’s Day
All-Star Crate – Hot Sauce Gift Set
We love Fuego Box. Chris loves spicy, and adds hot sauce to just about everything from soups to eggs to cocktails to chicken wings. There isn’t much that he won’t add hot sauce to, and he loves to try different brands and flavours. If you are like Chris (or know someone who is), Fuego Box is the perfect subscription box for you. It is a Hot Sauce of the Month subscription service which will deliver you a variety of small-batch/craft hot sauces right to your door each month!
The last time I posted about Fuego Box was before Christmas. If you missed it or want a refresher, you can check out my review here.
Monthly subscriptions range from $12.95 a month (for 1 bottle delivered every 30 days) to $29.95 a month (for 3 sauces). You can also sign up for a quarterly subscription that will see 3 sauces delivered every 90 days.
BUT WAIT! There is MORE! If you don’t want a subscription you can still shop for all the hot sauces of your dreams at the Fuego online store! Here you will find a variety of single hot sauces plus some gift sets too! Shipping is free within the US if you order 6 or more items.
This time around I was given the opportunity to test out the Fuego Box All-Star Crate (which makes the perfect gift for the Dad in your life by the way).
The All-Star crate combines five of their most popular hot sauces inside a custom wooden Fuego Box crate. The sauces range from mild to extra hot, so there is a hot sauce for just about everyone included.
Included hot sauces are:
- Dragon’s Blood Elixir Hot Sauce
- Char Man Brand Hot Sauce Verde
- Jersey Barnfire’s Black Garlic Hot Sauce
- Frankie V’s Kitchen Chocolate Spooky
- Secret Aardvark Habanero Hot Sauce
For the most part, Chris uses hot sauces the same way as any other condiment. I don’t cook spicy, so Chris will add hot sauce the same way others add ketchup, mustard or soya sauce. He likes it basically with everything. Eggs, burgers, rice, stir-fry, potatoes, etc. I also make chicken wings once a week using the same recipe I used in my original review for Fuego Box, but I change up the hot sauce each week for added variety.
Dragon’s Blood Elixir Hot Sauce – heat level: medium
This is a great all round medium level hot sauce. Its a great everyday sauce that can be used in a myriad of ways. Wings (of course), burgers, Chinese, Thai and Mexican foods, etc. Chris will even eat bread dipped in this when he’s craving something a little hot as a snack in the evenings. There is a little bit of a sweet undertone if you pay attention (this is from the apple cider but Chris couldn’t tell you WHERE the sweetness came from), but it has a nice all over heat that will make you perk up.
Char Man Brand Hot Sauce Verde – heat level: medium
Despite the weird green colour, this made great chicken wings. This sauce is a little thicker than the others, and not completely smooth. There are some chunks to it, making it almost like the consistency of a finely chopped relish or salsa. Chris also uses this one as a condiment when I make tacos and fajitas, and he likes it with scrambled eggs as well.
Jersey Barnfire’s Black Garlic Hot Sauce – heat level: mild
The black garlic has a very distinct garlic flavour to it, so if you’re a lover of both garlic and hot sauce this is the perfect one for you. Because black garlic is basically caramelized garlic, this one has a hint of sweetness under the heat. Because its mild, Chris uses this one on beef and to spice up stews and soups.
Frankie V’s Kitchen Chocolate Spooky – heat level: extra hot
Made with rare organic chocolate habanero peppers, this has a distinct flavour and is really hot. Out of the five hot sauces in the All-Star box, this was Chris’ favourite for adding to his food before eating. It has a really smoky intense heat, and is completely different from any hot sauce Chris has ever tried. He was apprehensive at first thinking that there was chocolate in the sauce, but once I assured him that the name refers to a variety of habanero peppers he was all in.
This is perfect in Caesars (which for my American readers is like a Bloody Mary except instead of tomato juice you use Clamato juice) and other cocktails.
Secret Aardvark Habanero Hot Sauce – heat level: mild
This was the first sauce we tried out this time around, and it was perfect for wings. The consistency was great, with a nice mild heat that has a really nice flavour and aroma. There is a noticeable sweetness underneath the heat because the base is made with roasted tomatoes and carrots. It is not too hot, and full of a really nice complex flavour that works on just about everything. Its great for dipping, and Chris likes to add it to his pizza. It also makes a really great sauce on chicken wings (because we eat a lot of chicken wings).
