Since I am getting older and aging as each day passes, I have been trying to care for my skin more so than I ever used to in my younger years. At 47 years young (or old depending on the day), my skin definitely is not what it used to be. I have those tell tale wrinkles around the eyes and I am finding that my skin has lost some elasticity as well as becoming more dry. I have blackheads and flaking skin as well. I usually just wash my face with a facecloth or for a quick fix, I use a gentle cleansing facial wipe.
I have seen some of my friends talking about these Konjac facial sponges so I decided to give them a try. When they arrived and I opened the small package I was a little disappointed to see that there were no instructions included.
The sponges were wrapped in a plastic covering and to me seemed so tiny. They were hard as a rock and really rough to the touch as well.
I figured that they were somewhat “dehydrated” if you will. I removed the plastic covering and placed the sponges into a bowl of warm water. They quickly absorbed the liquid and began to expand.
I let the sponges sit for about ten minutes in the water. I reached in to touch the white sponge and to me it felt like it was slimy and same with the black sponge. Although it did feel this way, the sponges are not slimy at all. The texture of the sponge just gives that sort of feeling to them. The sponges have a somewhat rubbery feeling to them as well.
Since there were no directions on what each sponge was to be used for and when, I used my lovely friend google to find the answer on the Art Naturals website.
The White sponge is for daily use and the Black sponge for weekly use.
Wet face with warm water.
Remove sponges from packaging and place under warm water.
Remove sponges from water and gently press in between palms.
Scrub face with sponge in a circular motion.
Do not press too firmly on acne-affected areas or around eyes.
Once you have finished place sponge back under warm water and then gently press dry.
Hang sponges from the attached string away from sunlight and humidity.
To disinfect soak sponges in hot, soapy water and rinse
I tried both sponges and they were really gentle on my skin and left my skin feeling really soft and smooth. They seemed to just glide across my skin and were not abrasive at all.
The Konjac sponges are vegan certified and 100% organic made entirely from the Konjac root. The Konjac root comes from the Konjac plant which is native to China and Japan. The root is high is vitamins, minerals and fiber which is why it is an ingredient in many nutrition and weight loss supplements as well.
The texture and properties of the Konjac root is what allows the sponges to cleanse thoroughly and very gently on the most sensitive of skin types like mine. There was no redness left to my skin at all after using the sponges nor did they irritate my skin whatsoever. The really work on removing blackheads as well.
If you want to use a cleanser with the sponges, you can. A little will go a very long way! You don’t need to use a lot with these sponges. They will produce a lot of lather with just a dab of cleanser.
I was really pleased in the sponge’s performance and the results.
