I love receiving new items for the kitchen. I’m not much of a baker, but I try, and I love when I have tools that make baking easier (because although I am not much of a baker, I LOVE eating baked goods as do the boys).
The Red Copper Brownie Bonanza Pan by Bulbhead is a pretty cool pan. We love brownies, and this pan makes making, and serving, brownies so much easier than using a regular baking dish! It truly is as easy as 1-2-3!
- BAKE: Prepare batter, and pour into pan, and bake according to directions.
- LIFT: Once cool, place onto the Brownie Stand to separate the Lifting Tray from the Brownie Pan.
- SERVE: Serve perfectly portioned brownies from the lifting tray or easily slide them onto a serving tray.
Although we are in the middle of the hottest summer we’ve had … well, ever … we still wanted to make brownies. This did mean being a little creative with our time, and doing our baking at about 1am because turning the oven on during the day right now is not acceptable.
We decided to use one of the recipes from the included recipe booklet, Cookie Dough Brownies. The reason we decided on this one was because it called for using a boxed brownie mix and refrigerated cookie dough. Like I mentioned, its been hot and the last thing I really want to do right now is a lot of baking (or cooking) so this one seemed like it would be simple, and easy (and delicious).
Cookie Dough Brownies
- 1 roll refrigerated chocolate chip cookies
- 1 box family size brownie mix, prepared as directed
Pour prepared brownie mix into Brownie Bonanza pan, insert divider. Cut cookie dough into 1 inch slices and then into 4 pieces. Drop 1 piece into each brownie section, pushing down into batter. Bake in 350˚F oven per box directions for 9×13″ pan. Allow to cool slightly, before removing divider.
For our boxed mix, the instructions said to cook for 24-26 minutes. After 25 minutes, the brownies were not at all cooked, so we kept them in the oven checking them in 5 minute intervals. All in all, our brownies took about 40 minutes before they were actually set. Adding in the cookie dough really increased the time (for us anyways).
The kitchen was still so hot, even at 1am, so we let the brownies cool for over half an hour before attempting to remove the divider. The pan was still warm to the touch at this point (but it was now 2am and we were tired) so we went ahead and removed the insert. The brownies did stick a little bit to the pan (and insert) but I believe this is because we couldn’t allow enough time for the brownies to fully 100% cool. Next time, I will pop them in the fridge to fully cool down before removing from the pan, and I think I will have more success.
What I love most about this pan are the perfectly portioned brownies. Because they are all the same size, there is no fighting between the boys about who got the bigger piece (which in my house has always been a huge issue in the past). The kids also love this pan because – BROWNIES.
This is a versatile pan that I will be able to use for making all sorts of baked goods such as cookie bars, cakes, and even apple crisp and muffin squares. This pan will also be perfect for Nanaimo Bars, and even to use at Christmas time for setting Chocolate Fudge. I use the Carnation Classic Five Minute Fudge recipe, and this pan will be perfect for chilling the fudge to set and for easy removal from the pan.
The pan itself is really easy to clean. Nothing really sticks, so it was as simple as a quick wipe and rinse in the sink. The main issue? Now the kids expect brownies every week!
