In my search for original and awesome gifts, I came across a unique subscription box service for kids called Crazy Kids Box.
If you have read any of my other Gift Guide suggestions, you know by now that I am all about gifting the unique, and unexpected. Crazy Kids Box is the only alternative clothing subscription for kids, and is run by two awesomely cool women named Rachel and Beth.
The idea came out of the desire to have cool and stylish clothing for their kids. It can be really hard to find cool clothing for kids, especially if you don’t live in a major city. Even then, the clothing can be really expensive. They wanted a solution that was both affordable AND fun, because they realize that kids love to express themselves with their own unique style as much as adults do. This is how Crazy Kids Box was born!
Its actually a really cool service. You choose your size, your subculture, and you build your kid’s wardrobe with super cool and stylish clothing! Subculture styles include Goth, Punk or Rockabilly themes, and sizes range from newborn to preteen.
You do not get to choose what is in your box, besides picking size range, subculture and gender (boy, girl, or mixed). Each box is a surprise, and not all boxes are the same! Each box contains 2 pieces of clothing and a toy at minimum, and are as unique as the children they are made for.
Subscribing is easy, and there is no commitment. Pause and restart at any time, or send a gift to a special child anywhere in the world! Best of all, they guarantee you’ll be happy. If you’re not satisfied with your box in any given month, they will make it right!
Prices start at $50 US a month, and there are 4 different plans, and you save money by getting more months at once.
- Month to Month $50/month
- 3 Month Prepay $100
- 6 Month Prepay $175
- 12 Month Prepay $300
Unlike a lot of other subscription services, however, they do take custom requests. For example, you can arrange to switch months so that your daughter gets a box, and then your son gets a box, and then back to your daughter again, or you can request an entire box of misfit items. Rachel and Beth are both very easy to work with, and they make the entire process from start to finish fun!
For my Crazy Kids Box, I picked Rockabilly in kids large for boys. Upon opening the box, I wasn’t sure what was in it as it was full of festive looking tinsel! This might be good for decorating a Christmas tree, so I’m putting it aside.
Under the tinsel there was a musical toy, a pair of Cat & Jack black jeans, and an Elvis t-shirt.
The kids always get excited when we get mail, and normally my youngest two are my “tester-helpers,” but this box was all about my 9 year old. He is a jeans and t-shirt kid, so the clothing choices were absolutely perfect. The jeans style is super skinny, and they are very soft with some stretch. They fit Thomas perfect, and are an excellent addition to his school clothes.
Thomas really loved the t-shirt. I was surprised at how much he loved it, and even more surprised that he knew that Elvis was a singer who died in the 1970’s. This was a bit of a proud Mommy Moment for me. I’m obviously doing my job, teaching him all the important things (insert a bit of laughter here). All jokes aside, we were both really happy with the clothing pieces we received, and I think that Thomas will be adding them into his regular school clothing rotation.
Thomas was actually impressed enough with his new clothes that he allowed me to take a photo of him (he’s at that age where he doesn’t really want me taking his picture anymore). The clothes really are a perfect fit.
The toy that we were sent is probably the most unique toy musical instrument I have ever seen. Over the years we have had all the regular toy musical instruments: toy drums, shakers, xylophones, etc. Something we have never had before, is a toy accordion. We were sent a Hohner Kids Musical Toy Accordion, which can be purchased on Amazon in both Canada and the USA.
The kids immediately checked it out and took turns testing it, as did my husband. To be honest, I’m not sure who enjoyed playing with it more but I think it might have been my husband. They played with it until I had to ask them to stop because it worked really well (and was really loud).
Overall, my experience with Crazy Kids Box is completely positive. I have absolutely nothing bad to say. Our favourite part was the new outfit for Thomas, but the toy was a nice little addition that the kids can share. This is a really fun and useful subscription box, and would make the perfect gift for stylish kids everywhere.
Here’s the really cool part! Crazy Kids Box is only part of the wonderful subscription boxes that are provided by Rachel and Beth! They also have a subculture box for the grown-ups that you can find here. You should check them out, they have some seriously cool boxes!
