Myfunvelope

Fairy Tale Fun

Each month, myfunvelope will send out an enveloped jam-packed with fun for your child. The monthly subscription will include at least four pre-packaged crafts and activities with easy to follow, kid-friendly instructions. Also included is a fun hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) activity.  Everything you need is included, even the glue, markers or crayons and scissors.

The newest theme to come to myfunvelope is Fairy Tale Fun. Inside the Fairy Tale Fun Kit you will find all the items needed to make a Dragon, a 3D Castle, a Frog Prince necklace, and a Crown. The STEM activity is Jack’s Bean Stalk, and you will actually grow your own bean pant.  Additional activities are finger puppets and a learn-to-draw frog card.

Both Hayden and Kristopher had a sick day last week, so the Fairy Tale Fun myfunvelope helped keep them occupied. They each gave up ONE craft for Thomas, but that still left them plenty of crafting opportunities. NONE of the boys suggested that the Fairy Tale theme was for girls. In fact, the first part that Kristopher coloured was the princess.

What I liked:

  • This kit included 5 crafts, finger puppets and a learn to draw card and provided the boys with 4+ hours of entertainment and crafting (plus a plant to grow).
  • The Fairy Tale theme is perfect for both boys and girls, and gives you a excellent opportunity to explore the classic Fairy Tale stories (perhaps to read together for the kid’s bedtime story).
  • All required supplies are included within the craft kit itself (except for a cup to grow the bean in and additional crayons/markers if needed).
  • As always, easy to follow instructions are included.
  • The Bean Stalk grow kit allows you to grow your very own bean plant.
  • Hayden’s favourite craft: The Frog Prince Necklace
  • Kristopher’s favourite craft: The 3D Castle
  • Thomas’ favourite crafts: The Dragon.

Once again, the boys loved the myfunvelope crafts. I love that all the supplies are included, although there was so much colouring involved (the castle took well over an hour to colour) that the boys did have to use their regular markers and crayons because the included ones were not enough to complete the castle (and the crown).

Hayden ended up putting the Frog bead upside down on the necklace but decided to leave instead it like that instead of fixing it so he could have a one-of-a-kind “upside down frog” necklace.

Although the castle was Kristopher’s favourite project, it was a little bit difficult to put together and did need a few repairs (tape did the trick). He was very happy with his finished project, and happy with how he coloured everything. I was happy that this took him almost 2 hours, so it kept him busy (and quiet).

Thomas spent almost an hour on his dragon, making it “just right.” He’s pretty happy with it, and he plans on hanging it up in his bedroom.

We haven’t had the chance to start the Bean Stalk craft yet, but the boys are looking forward to doing that one soon.

I found the theme to be fairly gender-neutral, but I also don’t believe in gender-stereotypes when it comes to toys or craft items for the boys. My boys like making necklaces as much as they like making dragons, so they had a lot of fun with the Fairy Tale crafts.

I think these kits would compliment a home schooling curriculum perfectly with the themed craft projects, and is equally fun for families like mine who enjoy craft projects but don’t have a very crafty Mom.
