Bringing Lego and Video Games together
In LEGO Dimensions, players use real Lego figures and a toy pad which can be played within the game itself, featuring characters and environments from over 30 different franchises including Back to the Future, The Simpsons, Lord of the Rings, Batman, and many more.
How it Works:
Each LEGO figure is equipped with a sensor, and when you place the figure on the game pad, that character will actually appear inside the game. LEGO Story Packs – like the just released The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack – come with new LEGO sets to build and place on to the game pad, opening up new dimensions of play.
The Starter Pack contains the original LEGO Dimensions portal to build, the video game, the USB toy pad, and Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle minifigures. Also included are bricks to build the LEGO Gateway and the Batmobile vehicle.
The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack brings the new movie to life on your TV! It adds additional characters and levels to the game, and includes Batgirl and Robin minifigures, and the Batwing vehicle.
In 2015, the new “Toys-to-Life” video game LEGO Dimensions was the number 1 holiday toy in Canada, and its Wave 7.5 expansion packs for the game were released on February 10, 2017, which is perfect timing for Family Day!
The latest expansions for LEGO Dimensions includes all new highly collectible packs for the following popular entertainment properties:
- Knight Rider
- The LEGO Batman Movie
- Mission Impossible
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Adventure Time
- and more!
If you already have LEGO Dimensions, you don’t have to purchase a new Starter Pack for the new expansions. The expansions are compatible with all Starter Packs, opening up all new worlds and levels to play! The LEGO Dimensions multiverse is constantly expanding with more classic and favourite characters to bring into this exciting world.
The Starter Pack is of course still available to be purchased for those (like me) who are NEW to the LEGO Dimension universe!
LEGO Dimensions is suitable for ages 7-14 (and beyond because you’re never too old for LEGO). You can play alone, or play with friends through the co-op mode, which allows for easy drop-in and drop-out play.
Hayden and I saw The LEGO Batman Movie at an advanced screening on February 8. It was AWESOME. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the movie over-all. If you haven’t seen it, you should make a date to do so. They do a really good job of making it relevant and interesting for both adults and kids alike, and its really quite funny.
Both of us really enjoyed the movie, and Hayden was pretty excited to be able to bring that movie experience home by playing with LEGO Dimensions. He was especially excited with that we received The LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack because it includes Robin, and Robin is Hayden’s absolute favourite Batman/Superhero character.
What We Liked:
- I liked that building is part of the game. You have to BUILD the Lego sets before you can play the video game!
- I like that you can expand the game with additional Story Packs and Level Packs, so that it never gets boring!
- I really like that the game pad is compatible with all past, current and future expansion packs!
- I liked that there are 4 different slots, so there could be 4 different games saved at any time. That means they can each have their own game going that is separate from one another. They don’t have to share.
- Easy to play, even for my youngest son.
- Really good in-game instructions.
- Interactive, interesting, with lots of action.
- We liked the in-game on-screen build directions for the vehicles.
- Thomas really liked that he could have his own game (he called it a world) and not have to share a world with his brothers.
- Kristopher really liked that every character has different abilities.
- Hayden really liked that he could switch between characters and that Batman was the main guy.
