May Gluten Free Box Review

For every box sent, Love With Food donates a meal to a hungry child.

gluten free

As you may or may not know, I have five sons. We are very lucky that we have no food allergies or sensitivities in my household, but that isn’t the case for everyone. A good friend of mine has daughters who have Celiac Disease, and therefore can not eat any gluten. It is awesome that there are now so many products available for them to eat, including baked goods (because let’s get real: baked good rock).

Love With Food is a really cool subscription box that sends you delicious snacks to your door each month. They donate a portion of the proceeds to help fight childhood hunger in the US and around the world. Memberships start as low as $7.99 (for US residents) and $16.50 for International customers.

The Deluxe Box and Gluten Free Box both ship to over 25 different countries. Currently, shipping is only $3.99 per box! All products ship for free within the USA.

Each month you will get the opportunity to test out some new and yummy snacks. Love With Food is a great way to experience products you might not have even known about before, and the snack sized portions are perfect for sampling! Your box will be full of delicious edibles and is guaranteed to NOT included any of the bad stuff.

Glutino Gluten Free Pretzel Twists

This is one of the products that was in both the Deluxe and the Gluten Free boxes. The Gluten Free box included a much bigger bag though (almost double the size). My son ate the entire other bag, so this one we shared. The only way we know these are gluten free is because the bag tells us. Taste wise, these pretzels taste like pretzels. Salty, crunchy, and delicious.

Enjoy Life Garlic & Parmesan Plentils

We have never had lentil chips before so I was not at all sure what to expect, but we are familiar with Enjoy Life. The Lentil Chips have a really nice garlic-parmesan smell to them, and an even better taste. The texture is almost a cross between a chip and a cracker, and they are crisp and crunchy. Thomas ate the entire bag, allowing me only one chip. He has no idea what lentils are, but he will tell you he likes lentil chips.

Fruigees Kalefornia Grape Organic Fruit Snack

We did not like this. I’m apprehensive of fruit and/or vegetable pouches to begin with, but this one had a really strange smell to it. It is a mixture of apples, grapes and kale and it was gross. The texture was more like a thick liquid than a fruit sauce, and grape was not the first scent or flavour here. I took a really quick taste which confirmed my first thought: GROSS. I did not make Thomas try this. Not good.

Lance Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers

Like the pretzels, this product was also in the Deluxe box. The crackers were just the right amount of salty, with a nice buttery flavour. The peanut butter was the perfect amount to balance out the snack. These were addictive and it didn’t take long to finish the package. I’m glad we ended up with two packs from the two different boxes because Thomas claimed the other package. This one was mine.

Schär Artisan Baker Multigrain Bread

The bread has a really nice texture, and wasn’t as dense at other gluten-free breads that we have tried. It was light, and had a really nice multi-grain taste.  Thomas used the WowButter on the bread to make a sandwich, and he loved it.

Munk Pack Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Protein Cookie

We did not like this one. It was a fairly large cookie, and had a nice soft texture, but it didn’t taste very good. It had a weird taste, and an even worse after taste. Both Thomas and I only managed one small bite and we ended up trashing this. That said, this was only one of two products in the May gluten free box that we didn’t enjoy.

Pamela’s Products Raspberry Figgies & Jammies

The Figgies & Jammies gluten free cookie was moist and delicious. It tasted like a raspberry flavoured fig newton cookie. I couldn’t tell that this was gluten free at all. The only issue I had was that it wasn’t big enough and I wanted more!

WOWBUTTER Toasted Soy Butter Spread

The WowButter really does smell and taste like peanut butter, and even has the same texture. Thomas made himself a sandwich using the gluten free bread and he couldn’t tell that it wasn’t peanut butter. We have no peanut allergies in our house, but he wants me to buy WowButter anyways because he liked the way it tastes.

Bakery On Main Maple Multigrain Muffin Instant Oatmeal

The oatmeal was easy to prepare, and lightly seasoned/sweetened. It contains oats, cane sugar, flax meal, chia seeds, quinoa, amaranth and sea salt. It is a much finer oatmeal mix than I am used to, but had a really nice pleasant scent upon opening the package. I did not add any other sugar to my oatmeal, just a touch of 2% milk, and it had a really nice rich flavour with a buttery undertone. I’m not sure where that buttery flavour comes from (there is no dairy listed in the ingredients) but it definitely tasted like a multi-grain muffin with butter. Delicious.

Piedmont Candy Company Red Bird All Natural Lemon Candy Puffs

We could smell the lemon before we even opened the bag. Once opened, we were greeted by a very strong lemon aroma. The actual puffs, though, were only lightly lemon flavoured and quite sweet (not at all tart). They melt in your mouth and leave a really nice after taste. The texture reminds me of the little pastel mints I used to eat as a child.  At only 10 calories per puff, they make a really nice light treat when you are craving something sweet!

Banza Chickpea Pasta Mac and Cheese

This was our first time trying chickpea pasta so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. I also do not buy boxed mac & cheese due to a really bad past experience with a leading brand’s product. This product was completely new to us. Like regular boxed mac & cheese it was easy to prepare (cooking faster than regular pasta) and the sauce was created using milk, margarine and the powdered cheese mix. It tasted very similar to other boxed white cheddar mac & cheese products, and my 9 year old really liked it. The texture of the pasta was similar to wheat pasta, and there was no odd aftertaste (which I find with some other gluten free pastas). I would definitely buy chickpea pasta again and I love that it has a high protein level.

I loved the assortment of snacks in the gluten free box. Like the Deluxe box, there was a nice combination of sweet and salty snacks, familiar snacks and snacks that were totally new to me (the lentil chips). Out of the 12 samples we received, there were only two we didn’t like (which is pretty good if you ask me)! Like the Deluxe box, my 9 year old claimed just about everything but was generous enough to let me at least have a taste!

If you want to check out Love With Food, you can get your first Deluxe Box for only $11.95 by signing up here. Pay only $11.95 US (plus $3.99 shipping if outside the US). That is a savings of 40%!

Thanks for the honest review. I’ve seen the Plentils, but didn’t know anyone who had tried them, so was hesitant to buy them. I might just have to try them now.

Plentils are an item I have wanted to try since they came out, and what a great way to be introduced to them … alongside so many other products. I should try a subscription box one day.

This was a great box and I have to agree with the cookie, in my one box I had a weird tasting cookie and could not eat it at all, but everything else was great!!
