We love games. We love board games, puzzles, dice games, you name it and we probably love it! We have most of the regular games, plus a few others, and we play them often. I am always looking for new games that are challenging (but not so challenging as to cause melt downs) fun, and educational. Games should be fun, of course, but its always great when the kids learn something at the same time (especially if they don’t realize that they are learning)!
Learning Resources makes games and puzzles that are just that! Fun, hands-on and educational! Their product line is unique and original, and they even have products that are designed to help children with special needs learn as well. As a Mom of a child with a sensory disorder, I know how important hands-on learning can be, and I appreciate a company who takes this into consideration when designing and creating their product line!
New for 2016 is Mental Blox 360˚ 3-D Building Game, and I was given the opportunity to test it out! For ages 5+, this game provides three challenge levels to help exercise your brain. The activities target critical thinking, spatial visualization and problem solving. There are 15 colourful (and durable) plastic blocks, and 40 activity cards included in the box. Each activity card gives you a challenge to complete, with the solution on the back.
Because each challenge is individual, you can play for as little or as long as you want (which is great for children with shorter attention spans). I really like that this can be played individually, or with multiple participants. Because you can play on your own, this game is a great fit for my family. Hayden or Kristopher can play on their own so there is no fighting about who goes first, or who is taking too long on his turn, or any of the things they normally fight about.
My 6 year old especially liked the Mental Blox 360˚ and played with it for almost an hour on his own while I was making dinner. He was very proud of himself when he was able to stack the blocks up to match the cards. Surprisingly, my 19 year old also really enjoyed playing (but he refused to allow me to take a photo).
Another bonus is that clean up of Mental Blox 360˚ is so easy! Included on the inside of the box is an outline of the blocks so that you can put everything away quickly and easily, and there is no guessing about what piece goes where. There is no trial and error, which makes clean up a breeze, and for my 6 year old it was almost another part of the game.
If you are looking for a fun, unique and affordable gift for the child on your list, Mental Blox 360˚ is available on amazon.com, amazon.ca and Learning Resources.com. Mastermind Toys and Toys R Us both carry a selection of Learning Resources toys and games as well. Check out their entire product line, there are so many amazing games, puzzles and learning toys available that would make a perfect addition to any home, daycare or classroom.
