Ally-saurus is back – and ROARING louder than ever!

What happens when a bossy new girl tries to make everyone play by her rules?

Ally-saurus and her friends always have lots of fun playing pretend. They stomp, roar, and dance, each in their own special way. But a new girl, Maddie, wants everyone to play the way she wants, and everything she says. She decides the group is going to play monsters and crowns herself the queen! Can Ally-saurus help Maddie understand that bossiness is no fun at all?

I love this book. Love, love, love, love. One of my favourite parts about this book is the way Richard Torrey illustrates each page in mostly grey-scale for “real-life” with colours added in for the “imagination” parts. I have never seen a book illustrated in this way, and I think it is an absolute genius way of combining the “real” and the “pretend” side-by-side. For little ones, imaginary play can be very real and Richard Torrey understands this relationship perfectly!

ally-saurus

The story itself is wonderful. It is silly, and fun, and not at all “preachy.” As a Mom of boys who are very imaginative, including some who had very complex relationships with their “imaginary friends” (I’m talking to you, Travis), I love how Richard Torrey connects the pretend with the real in a meaningful and believable way.

By the end, Hayden had a really good understanding of what it means to be a friend and how to cooperate so that everyone can have fun playing together!

ally-saurus

It is a great book for Hayden and I to read together, and Hayden was able to read it alone with just a little help from me with some of the bigger words he didn’t recognize.

With charm and humour, Richard Torrey teaches a gentle lesson in respecting each other’s differences … and playing nice … in ALLY-SAURUS & THE VERY BOSSY MONSTER (Sterling Children’s Books, August 2017).
