The Smoking Gun by Breville Tasty Recipes

Breville’s The Smoking Gun
Infuse Foods, Drinks & More with Natural Smokey Flavors

Breville Smoking Gun

In my home, we love food that is smoked, especially meats and sauces. They have that added punch of flavor that we so often crave. For so long, I have wanted a way to smoke my own food in my home with a product that would allow me to add as little or as much smoke infused flavor as I wished and especially one that wouldn’t break the bank. The Smoking Gun by Breville is the answer that I’ve been looking for. It’s so easy to use too! See my original Recipes Inside!

Easy Set up and Use

The Smoking Gun comes with everything you need to get you started which include the cold smoke system, burn chamber, silicone tube, instruction booklet, recipe cards (english and french), 4 AA batteries, mesh filters (plus replacements) and 2 wood chip samples (Hickory and Applewood).

Setting up to smoke your favorite meats and more is so easy. The Smoking Gun is pretty much a plug and play product. After quickly glancing over the easy to follow instructions, I couldn’t wait to use it. I already had a couple meals in mind so I could put the Smoking Gun to the test.

Smoked BBQ Sauce & Chicken Legs Recipe

First, I set up the Smoking Gun and began to infuse my Chicken legs with the Hickory flavored wood chips. To get me started, all I needed to do was place the batteries into the base, insert the silicone tube into the housing, cover my container loaded with the chicken legs with plastic wrap, insert the burn chamber into the slot until I heard it click, add some Hickory wood chips into the burn chamber, place the silicone tube under the plastic wrap and turn on the Smoking Gun. There are two settings to choose from, intense and low. I used the intense setting to get me started and with a quick ignition of the chips using a lighter (or you can use a match), I was on my way. Once the wood chips were lit and smoke began to emit from the tube, I turned the setting down to low for a slow burn.

Once the smoke started to fill the container, I was bombarded with a blast of Hickory scented smoke emitting from under the plastic wrap. Leave it to hubby to buy the cheap stuff that doesn’t cling!!

This was just unacceptable to me so I made him go to the store and buy the good stuff! Once he did that, I was able to smoke my Chicken legs with no smoke escaping from under the plastic wrap. Once the wood chips burned down and the container was filled with smoke, I turned off the Smoking Gun and allowed the flavor to infuse into the meat.

While my Chicken legs were left standing (no pun intended), I began to make my home made BBQ sauce which I was going to infuse with the Hickory flavor as well.

Breville Smoking Gun Hickey Smoked BBQ Sauce

My Homemade BBQ Sauce Ingredients:
Ketchup (half a small bottle)
Soy Sauce (a few shakes)
Worcestershire Sauce (a few shakes)
Vinegar (1 tsp)
Honey (3 tsps)
1 clove garlic (crushed)

Directions: Mix all ingredients together and smoke with Hickory flavored wood chips. Let stand to infuse for 1/2 hr.

The method of cooking the Chicken legs is up you. Personally, I like to bake mine or cook on the BBQ rather than fry. Although, if I had an air fryer I would most likely choose that option.

Preheat oven to 365 degrees.
Place Chicken legs onto a baking sheet and baste with the BBQ sauce.
Check the Chicken periodically, basting each time.
Turn legs over and repeat until fully cooked.

Breville Smoking Gun Hickory Smoked Chicken Legs

The result was deliciously tasting chicken legs that had a nice subtle hickory flavor. I definitely will be making these again.

Now that I tested the Smoking Gun and sampled how easy it was to add the Hickory flavor to my meal, I just had to try out the Applewood flavored wood chips. I knew the perfect recipe that I was going to try it out on.

Honey Apple Glazed Pork Chops

Ingredients:
Pork Chops (2-4 fast fry)
Apple Juice (1/4 cup)
5 small Macintosh Apples (peel, core, dice)
1 Macintosh Apple (sliced)
Honey (3 tbsp)
Cinnamon (1 tsp)
Lemon Juice (1 tsp)
Mozzarella Cheese (grated) – optional

Directions:

Prepare the Sliced Apple:
Slice one of the apples into bite sized slices and place into a bowl with a teaspoon of lemon juice. Set aside and save for later.

Prepare the Pork Chops:
Place pork chops into a container and cover with plastic wrap or use anything you have that will trap the smoke inside. Prepare the Smoking Gun to infuse the Applewood flavor, place silicone tube under plastic wrap and turn on the Smoking Gun to fill the container with the smoke. Once the container is filled, turn off the smoking gun and let the Pork Chops stand. I tried to smoke them in a freezer bag this time around and it worked okay! Just need to be sure to remove the silicone tube and close right away. Let stand for 20 minutes.

Prepare the Honey Apple Glaze:
Simmer the diced apples in a small pot filled with 1/4 cup of apple juice. Cook until tender and remove from heat, add in the honey and cinnamon and mash together.
Breville Smoking Gun apple mix
Smoke the mixture with the Applewood flavored wood chips. Let stand for 20 minutes.

Remove the Pork Chops from the container and place into a lightly oiled skillet. Turn on heat to medium, place the Pork Chops into the skillet and baste with the Apple Honey mixture.

Breville Smoking Gun basted pork chops

Turn the Pork chops over after 5 minutes and baste with Honey Apple glaze and let cook for another 5 minutes or so.

While basting the Pork Chops, place the pot of remaining Honey Apple Glaze onto the stove and heat.

Place Pork chops onto a plate, top with Honey Apple mixture and garnish with the apple slices.

At this time, you can top with grated Mozzarella cheese. The dish is good with or without. I thought I had some but it seems that I had run out otherwise I would have added the cheese!

The taste is amazing and subtle. I loved how the Applewood smoked flavor added that extra bit of flavor to the dish.

I can’t wait to use the Smoking Gun to make some more tasty smoke infused meals.
