Have Your Cookie and Eat it Too
If You Give a Man a Cookie
If You Give a Man a Cookie (Andrews McMeel Publishing, $16.99 US/$22.99 CAN, October 2017) … he’s going to want milk to go with it… God forbid he should get it himself.
After 30 years of giving pancakes to pigs and muffins to moose, bestselling author Laura Numeroff faces her toughest customer yet: man, whose incredibly needy journey from cookie to couch wreaks havoc on his exasperated wife. Taking a cue from Go the F**k to Sleep and Goodnight iPad, Numeroff beats other parodies to the punch by putting a humorous and relatable spin on her own classic work, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.
If You Give a Man a Cookie takes one simple request and sets off a hilariously relatable chain of events that grown-up fans of Numeroff’s books will eat right up.
We have been reading the If You Give a … books for about two decades. I first discovered If You Give a Mouse a Cookie in the mid-90s when my oldest son was a baby. We were hooked, and I have continued to purchase the other books as they have been released. Full of imaginative and silly narrative, with matching pictures, these books are fun for both kids and adults alike.
Last year I discovered adult parody picture pictures, and surprised my then 19 year old with several for Christmas. They were a hit, and when I saw If You Give a Man a Cookie I knew this would make the PERFECT addition to his Christmas gifts this year! Like the children’s books, it’s silly and funny (and relatable too – lol).
