  • Maple Crunch – their newest creation

Did you know?

There really is a MARY! Mary Macleod began baking her signature Chocolate Crunch shortbread from a small shop under the marquee of the Capitol Theatre in Toronto. Her shortbread was an instant hit and after over 30 years it’s now an international favourite.

Nothing says Christmas to me more than shortbread cookies. Shortbread is one of my very favourite cookies, and Christmas isn’t Christmas unless we have some. We were beyond delighted when the wonderful folks over at Mary Macleod’s Shortbread sent us a seasonal package of assorted shortbread cookies to enjoy, bringing a little bit of Christmas into my home in October.

Mary Macleod's

When I opened up the Shortbread Cookie Tin, I was overwhelmed by the scent. These cookies smell like home. I was seriously transported back in time to childhood Christmas’ with my Mom’s amazing shortbread cookies (that I have tried to duplicate with limited success). After the amazing scent, I was even more excited than I already was to dig into some early Christmas Cookie taste-testing!

mary macleod's

Traditional: These taste just like the whipped short bread my Mom made when I was growing up, but better. They are literally to die for. You can taste the real butter, and they absolutely melt in your mouth. So good, in fact, that I’m not sharing.

Mary Macleod's

Chocolate Crunch: Amazing. Melt in your mouth shortbread chocolate crunch throughout. I can see why the the Chocolate Crunch are Mary Macleod’s best-selling cookie!

Mary Macleod's

Dutch Chocolate: Rich, indulgent, satisfying melt-in-your-mouth, chocolate goodness. It is not that I am putting the Dutch Chocolate Shortbread on a pedestal or anything, but I’m putting the Dutch Chocolate Shortbread on a pedestal. AND – I’m not sharing these either. Okay, well maybe just one.

Mary Macleod's

I can imagine that the Snowmen taste just as fantastic, but we are going to save those (and the Ornament Tin) to enjoy closer to Christmas. I’m pretty sure these are Santa’s favourite cookies, so we will crack these other two packages open on Christmas Eve.  These are simply the best shortbread cookies we have ever had, sorry Mom – but you told me never to tell a lie! These cookies taste like Christmas and home and childhood and joy all wrapped up into one perfect treat. And the smell… I think this is my favourite smell in the whole world!

Mary Macleod's

Each shortbread that I tried was rich, smooth, and melt-in-your-mouth perfect. Because they are so rich, one cookie is often enough to crave any sweet craving at a time.
