The Joys of Parenting & Everything in Between

Sullivan Entertainment Road to Avonlea the Movie

One of the things I love doing is watching movies with family. It’s a nice way to relax, be together and have some quality down time. I love to watch family oriented movies (even though it’s just the hubby and I). Road to Avonlea is one such movie that I truly enjoyed.

Road to Avonlea Movie

In all honesty, I have never seen an episode of the Road to Avonlea series so I was glad to have had the opportunity to view this movie as it is a combination of the episodes The Journey Begins and Proof of the Pudding. Thanks to Sullivan Entertainment, I now have an understanding and an introduction to Sara Stanley and her adventures.

At first, Sara comes off as a snobbish and entitled girl who wants for nothing. Somewhat raised by her nanny and accustomed to being doted on, Sara is plummeted into a cultural shock when she is sent to live with relatives in Prince Edward Island. Thrust into a family of relatives she does not know, having to pitch in and do her share and being teased about the father she loves is sometimes more than she can bare.

Her stubbornness and rivalry between her sibling relatives (mainly her cousin Felicity) gets her into mischief. It’s not until the children are left alone that the real butting of heads begins, however, through this “alone time” the cousins are able to work through their rivalry, begin to work together and more importantly learn to respect and love each other.

I think in some way each of us can relate to Sara in one aspect or another. I loved this movie because it shows how teasing and revenge can affect people, both young and old but moreover it shows how people can overcome differences and learn to get along without violence.

I have to be honest though, I had to keep Anne of Green Gables out of my head. At some points with Sara being outspoken and the misadventures Sara had got herself into, I had visions of Anne.

At Sullivan Entertainment, they have an array of family oriented movies.
