Join Lady Pancake and Sir French Toast on their next adventure, as our favourite foodie friends solve a smelly mystery!

Sir French Toast’s nephew, Inspector Croissant, begs him and Lady Pancake for help in finding the source of a foul odor in the fridge. Could it be the devious Baron Von Waffle? A fetid fish lurking in the bottom of the corn Chowder Lake?

Featuring the same delectable rhymes, wordplay, and art that won critical raves for Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast – there’s even an actual red herring – this fun follow-up is a tasty treat for kids and adults!

Caring For Your Lion

by Tammi Sauer
Illustrated by Troy Cummings

sterling children's books

What happens when you expect an itty-bitty kitty…but get a lion instead?

Should this happen to you, you might need a guide to caring for your new lion. Instructions like – try very hard NOT to look like a zebra. Or a gazelle. Or a bunny. And give your lion PLENTY of space to play. Also, your lion loves pizza, so order plenty!

Having a lion is a lot of work – is there any way the king of the jungle could actually be a child’s purr-fect pet? CARING FOR YOUR LION will show you how!

I love books. Books are one of my favourite things in the whole world. For me, nothing is more relaxing than snuggling into the sofa and losing myself in the words of a good book. I have always provided my boys with a wide assortment of books from the time they were infants, trying to foster the same love of books I have into them. In this day and age of social media and internet, I think its more important than ever to provide my boys with actual physical books.

Hayden has turned out to be my little reader. He is constantly begging me for new books to read, both to read alone and to read with me. The books he gravitates towards tend to be on the more silly and humorous side, and that is where both The Case of the Stinky Stench and Caring For Your Lion fit right in.

The Case of the Stinky Stench is really fun! It is a rhyming book, so as I read it, I almost sing the words. The rhymes are not your typical cat-hat-bat-sat rhymes though. Square-lair, cave-knave, sneering-interfering, vicious-delicious, shiver-river. These are some of the word pairs that set the tone for the book.

The cover accidentally slid off the book as we were getting ready to read it, and underneath the book looks a pizza box which I thought was a really great touch!

It is silly. It is goofy. It is just fun! When I read this to Hayden, he giggles almost all the way through it. The pictures of the food are colourful, ridiculous, and yes: there really IS a red herring!

Caring For Your Lion is a silly and funny 14 step guide on how to take care of your lion. It is ridiculous, crazy, and full of fun action making it a book kids will want to read (or have read to them) over and over and over. We have cats, so the idea of Eddie or Tux actually being a Lion makes Hayden laugh.

Hayden was able to read this one almost completely on his own (he has grade 3 reading skills even though he’s only in grade 1).

sterling books

When he got to this page, he actually asked me if the word was an Onomatopoeia. I asked him if he even knew what that meant and he replied, “Of course I do! I’m in grade one Mommy!”

As we read this book, he keeps picturing a Lion in our house instead of one of the cats and it must be a really funny thought because he just won’t stop laughing! The pictures are fun, vibrant and colourful. And, like the best books, it has a happy ending.

sterling books

Both books have quickly become bedtime favourites for Hayden, and he will even sit and read them on his own (although he needs help with some of the words, he’s actually really good at sounding them out on his own). What I love most about both of these books is that they make reading fun. What better way to inspire our children to love book than by making books FUN! Someone who WANTS to read, WILL read and The Case of the Stinky Stench and Caring For Your Lion are books your child will want to read.

A child who loves books grows up to be an adult who loves books so its important to foster that love from an early age! Sterling Children’s Books can help you do that.
